Registration

To access the restricted area of the ecoinvent database you need to register.

You can register as a guest. As a guest you will have limited access to the restricted area and will be able to view general information on the datasets. However, downloading of datasets is not possible.

Registered members enjoy unlimited access to all datasets of the various databases of ecoinvent. You can view datasets online and download them. Furthermore registered members will receive the comprehensive final reports of the project on CD-ROM. Registration as a member requires an annual fee (see Terms of Use and Prices).

At present, both guests and registered members have unlimited and free of charge access to a demo version of the ecoinvent database.

Guest or Member Registration ?

Registration as a guest is a possibility to allow interested persons to get an overview of the contents of the ecoinvent databases. Registration as "Guest" is free of charge.

As a guest you can use the search functions to browse for datasets. However, clicking on a dataset name for further information will only show meta information (dataset information, geographical validity, technology used, ...). The actual inventory data will be suppressed. It is not possible for guests to download datasets. The login status as "Guest" can be viewed in the navigation bar at the top of the page in the "Status" field.

We recommend you use the guest status to get an impression how to use the ecoinvent database and an overview of the numerous datasets contained in it, before you register as a "Member" to make full use of all functions and download all the datasets you need. If you wish to change your status from "Guest" to "Member", please send an E-Mail to the ecoinvent support.

This is how to register as a guest or a member:

• First, read the terms of use for the ecoinvent database carefully.
• Then click on the link "Registration"
• Fill in all fields of the registration form. The fields marked by an asterisk are mandatory fields.
• Select the appropriate option. Register as "Guest" or "Member".
• Confirm that you have read and accepted the terms of use by setting a tick mark. (If you haven't read them by now, you should do so before marking the check box)
• Select a user name which has 6 to 15 characters. Only letters (including umlauts) and numbers are permitted. The user name must not contain special characters (including period, dash, subslash and space). Please note that the user name is case-sensitive!
• Enter a password for your access and retype the password for confirmation in the field below. The password must contain 6 to 15 characters. The same rules as for the user name apply: only letters and numbers, no special characters, case-sensitive (see above).
• Check your input again, then click on the button "Register".

Hint: Please remember your user name and password. To avoid misuse you should maintain them confidential and not give your access data to a third party.

Newsletter

On the registration page you can also subscribe to the ecoinvent Newsletter. The newsletter will keep you up to date with news from the ecoinvent centre. It also contains reports about further developments, new data added to the database and about corrections made to individual datasets.

Mark the option "Please add me to the mailing list of the ecoinvent newsletter" and make sure you have entered a valid E-Mail address. If you don't wish to receive the newsletter, please remove the tick mark from the check box before sending your registration.
