The ecoinvent Association was originally known as the ecoinvent Centre, the Swiss Centre for Life Cycle Inventories.
Since June 2013 ecoinvent is a not-for-profit association founded by institutes of the ETH Domain and the Swiss Federal Offices.
The founding members are namely the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) and Lausanne (EPF Lausanne), the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa), and Agroscope, Institute for Sustainability Sciences.
The entire revenues of ecoinvent are reinvested in improving the quality of the product. In this sense ecoinvent is a non-profit organisation, not paying out dividends to its members.
