The database is an information source for sustainability experts, product designers, policy-makers, researchers and others. It is sold and used worldwide, with over 7500 licences provided to businesses, consultants, academics and public entities, and many tens of thousands of users. ecoinvent is organized as a not-for-profit association with close ties to the ETH domain, with funding coming from license sales. With 12 employees and located in central Zurich, ecoinvent offers a great work environment for someone looking to work on an innovative and meaningful challenge.

What the job involves

ecoinvent maintains and publishes a database on industrial and other processes and products to allow a detailed assessment of their environmental impacts along the whole supply chain and/or life cycle. ecoinvent has significant and diverse needs for software and code – to support data providers, to handle, analyse and review data internally, and to provide data to the users in various forms. Traditionally ecoinvent has worked with external implementation partners for larger projects and handled only small tasks in-house with.

ecoinvent is now looking to extend and update its software portfolio and we require a dedicated coordinator of existing tools and new developments. Your role will have two major components. First, you will specify, coordinate and supervise external development projects for the several tools ecoinvent maintains, plus new ones in planning and development. You will have the opportunity to lead ecoinvent’s IT and software portfolio. You will work closely with sustainability experts with coding and IT experience at ecoinvent as well as with external developers and implementation partners on a variety of projects. You will also contribute directly to the development of our portfolio in internal projects. ecoinvent is a flexible organization and you will be able to shape your role with us.
