ecoinvent 3.1

ecoinvent version 3.1 is the first minor release of the ecoinvent database after the major release of version 3 in 2013. Despite the term minor, version 3.1 brings many improvements and additions to the database. 

Version 3.1 was released on 8th July 2014. The main focus of this release was new data, with new products and updates to existing sectors. It also brought back the allocation model of version 2 as well as flows for the renewable CED and has introduced new LCIA methods.

Version 3.1 brought several new and updated datasets.


Additionally, the new allocation, cut-off by classification system model was introduced. Users familiar with the allocation approach of version 2 will find their needs met by this system model.

Known Data Issues

This section lists all known data errors in ecoinvent version 3.1. We are working hard on eliminating these for upcoming update to the database.


We document these issues openly to warn our users about these problems and to help them understand the errors so they may work around them while we work on the update and error fix.
