From biowaste treatment to nitrogen fertiliser

Hi,

I am doing a system expansion of my LCA and one of the products of it is biowaste. I would like to model the following:

biowaste -> compost -> nitrogen fertiliser

I found the following processes in Ecoinvent:

treatment of biowaste, industrial composting | biowaste

nutrient supply from compost | nitrogen fertiliser, as N

However I am struggling to connect these processes to obtain my final product nitrogen fertiliser as there are only elementary flows in the treatment of biowaste, so I don't know how much compost is actually produced with the process. Is there a way to find out?

Many thanks

Sophie

Dear Sophie,

Thank you for your thread. The treatment of biowaste has an input of 1 kg of biowaste and as an output 0.5 kg of compost. Later on, the nutrient supply of compost, has an input of 1 kg of compost and an output of 0.007 kg of nitrogen fertiliser, as N. What problem are you facing exactly in connecting those datasets? How are you trying to connect them.

Best regards,

Avraam

Dear Avraam,

Many thanks for your quick reply. I might be using the wrong database (ecoinvent_34_cutoff_lci_up_lcia_20180314)

In this one if you look in the picture attached, outputs only show elementary flows, and not the out[ut of 0.5kgs of compost. Which database are you using?

Thank you!

Sophie

Dear Sophie,

Unfortunately the picture had not attached properly. Please send me an email at symeonidis@ecoinvent.org. I am using v3.5.
